The ExCite team in HMRC CDIO specialises in the provision of systems based on Oracle Fusion Middleware and messaging. The existing and forthcoming platforms underpin systems which provide a wide range of services including interchanging information about the movement of goods, excise duties and VAT between EU member state tax authorities.

As a progressive Department in line with the direction of transformation in HMRC CDIO, the Department is well underway in adopting Agile and DevOps Methodologies and implementing the tools and technologies to underpin them. The ExCite team is keen to recruit staff that have experience, or at least good familiarity with these, and the mindset to adopt and adapt them.

About The Role

The Applications Management team are seeking a Software Engineer (Live Service) who will be responsible for supporting the application aspects of multiple live services.

Tasks include:

  • Investigation and management of live incidents and problems. Provision of resolutions.
  • Interaction/Interface with Solutions Delivery (project handover, Clone testing, etc.)
  • Provision of Out Of Hours (On Call) cover on a rota basis
  • Creation and maintenance of support documentation (LSMs, work instructions, etc.)
  • Technical Advice/Support to other area including the customer

Role Requirements

The post holder will be responsible for the following:

  • Supporting the application aspects of multiple live services based on Oracle Fusion Middleware
  • Involvement in live incidents escalated via other support teams. Co-ordination with New Projects to gain an understanding of Live Support Requirements
  • Collection of ad hoc statistics
  • Housekeeping on Live Service and Databases
  • Enhancement suggestions through Change Proposals/CIPs and Trouble Tickets.

Essential Criteria

  • Proven experience in the use of WebLogic, Oracle Database, UNIX and J2EE
  • Demonstrable client facing expertise, good negotiation skills, strong organisation skills and solid, proactive interpersonal skills at all levels, with a positive 'can do' attitude.
  • Ability to demonstrate awareness of Incident, Problem, Risk and/or Change Management
  • Proven experience of working autonomously
  • Solid analytical skills with demonstrable experience of making key decisions and forward thinking
  • A willingness to provide Out of Hours (On Call) cover on a rota basis

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience with one of both of the following:
    • Oracle Fusion BPM
    • Oracle Fusion Service Bus
  • Working knowledge of Service Management Systems and applications
  • Experience of DevOps tooling including Jenkins, Maven etc
  • Experience of Maestro Scheduler
  • Awareness of risk, change and problem management
  • Knowledge and demonstrated application of ITIL
  • Experience of task estimating
  • Experience of delivering projects in an agile environment and experience of agile working methods
  • Experience of software development life cycle methodologies, including Agile and Lean.
  • Experience of dealing with 3rd-party suppliers
