Mobiecom, short for mobile e-commerce, is a storefront user interface (UI) that integrates with WebSphere Commerce and is deployed on the IBM Cloud.

Companies looking to roll out a customized, responsive website to reach mobile users can optimize their sites without spending a lot of time and money on design with Mobiecom. Additionally, Mobiecom clients can deploy their new UI storefront in a matter of six to eight weeks rather than the six-plus months a typical user interface redesign could take.

Simplifying and democratizing technology

Our customer Bishop Company, which has supplied arborists, landscapers and retail gardens for over a decade, wanted a mobile site to provide services and tooling to its customers who are typically out and about in the field. It’s much more convenient for them to access the catalog wherever they are, then order whatever they need whenever they need it. Bishop needed to be available on mobile devices to better cater to their customers’ needs.

Bishop is a small, family business with limited resources. How can it complete with big-box players such as Home Depot and Lowe’s?

After implementing the Mobiecom solution, Bishop’s pages now load in less than two seconds, compared to the seven to 10 seconds previously. All this speed is achieved without the use of a content delivery network (CDN). The company has noticed an uptick of 35 percent more mobile traffic with the new, responsive front end. Now 11 percent of the company’s orders come from mobile devices.

What’s the secret of this success? Mobiecom is a single-page application (SPA) developed in React.JS, a framework published by Facebook in 2016 to service its 1.5 billion users. Zobrist uses this open source technology to help WebSphere Commerce customers speed up their websites and launch their mobile-optimized user experience in the IBM Cloud.
