Gigster, an online marketplace that curates and matches software developers with enterprise projects, has chosen IBM Cloud to be its preferred cloud platform for the creation of next-generation, cognitive apps.
To take advantage of the new cloud-based opportunities, Gigster will train 1,400 developers and project managers, along with other tech talent, on how to best use IBM Cloud to build innovative applications of the future. The deal was announced at IBM InterConnect in Las Vegas.
According to Roger Dickey, Gigster’s CEO, the IBM Cloud platform features stood apart from competing services. “Although there are several cloud platform options on which to run Gigster, IBM Cloud offers the cognitive technologies our developers need when we build intelligence-driven apps,” he said. “IBM’s design-centric platform, paired with its deep set of Watson APIs and tools in IoT, analytics and more, enables us to bring companies of all sizes the right resources they need to turn ideas into reality — fast.”
Building toward a cognitive future
While cognitive capabilities may seem like something out of “The Jetsons,” this technology is poised to rapidly transform the sphere in the coming years. In fact, an IDC report predicts that by 2018, more than 50 percent of developer teams will produce apps embedded with cognitive capabilities. These enhancements have huge implications for the limits of application development. After all, this development solution can help power real-time personalization at a large volume, thereby building a smarter, stronger and more responsive experience for application users.
Cognitive solutions should also accelerate the development time for apps. Instead of requiring 12 weeks to build a blueprint for completing a development project, a cognitive approach could reduce that time investment to less than three weeks.
Meanwhile, enterprises can identify and address points of concern in the development process faster while minimizing delays. The obvious benefits of cognitive solutions have led many enterprise developers to be eager to implement the technology, and Gigster’s deal with IBM Cloud brings this potential transformation closer to the mainstream.
